Most brides and grooms would consider having rain on their wedding day bad luck and would consider it one of the worst things that can happen. Especially for those who are having an outside event, that probably can be considered a really bad thing.
But with everything preparation makes everything better and a bad scenario can be turned into a good scenario.
Recently there have been several questions from wedding photographers about what they can do to create a better photo atmosphere for their newlyweds if and when it does rain on the wedding day.
For one it’s very important to keep positive and try not to look so worried. That will reflect on your couple’s photos especially if you are the one taking the photos. In case it does rain, bring some photos of wedding day pictures that were taken in the rain to give your couple an idea of how beautiful it can be. One other thing, always, always, bring a trunk full of umbrellas to give as wedding gifts.
Remember preparation is key and regardless whether you use it or not you can use it as props. Please try not to bring umbrellas that you would see in a mob movie where the boss is being covered by his chauffeur. In times of designer toilet paper you should try to incorporate nice designs in your umbrella. Most department stores don’t carry as much but if you go online you can find tons of really nice umbrella styles that will look great in your photos.
So what do we do about the outdoor wedding? Well there really is no guaranteed way to avoid the rain if it is a hundred percent outdoor event but you should always have a covered canopy. Remember, not everyone likes to be in the sun all day so regardless whether it rains or not try to provide your guests with a covered area. This way if it does rain you can make quick arrangements to proceed with your ceremony under the canopy.
Even in scenarios where you are having an outdoor wedding, most venues have an inside reception area for your guests so make sure you ask your wedding planner what are some of the backup plans if it does rain.
The area might not be as large and open but it will be a whole lot better than to get soaked from the rain. Try to set an example as well. One of the most important things about a wedding is that you should be having fun and celebrate the bride and groom’s day.
If you are the bride or the groom take a leap of faith and enjoy the rain. For one once you have all the great photos taken of you, you don’t need to stay pristine through the entire day, go play in the rain, your guests will see how much fun you are having and join you.
